Design, Prototypes, Molds, Slip Casting, and Decoration with Andrew Martin in The Netherlands
This masterclass workshop is an intensive in design, mold making, and slip casting. The objective is for participants (you) to develop technical and procedural skill with design, molds and casting and to gain a deeper understanding of their own aesthetic perspective. You will begin with objectives that are discussed before your arrival in The Netherlands. The workshops are designed to help you meet and exceed your stated objectives. Beyond that, we will work to focus, clarify and further your aesthetic and career objectives. Each day starts with a group discussion of the previous day’s progress. This forum is for you to share with each other the processes, procedures, and insights that you are developing. We will also incorporate regular and impromptu demonstrations. There are four lectures: porcelain formulation based on John Reeve’s More Notes on Porcelain; four different methods of formulating new glazes; design language and application; and decoration systems. This masterclass is for artists who already have some working knowledge of mold making and slip casting. Come ready to take risks, stretch beyond the conventions of your comfort-zone, and to make unexpected discoveries.
