Visiting Artist/INSTRUCTOR POSITION at SUNY New Paltz - Deadline Extended

Visiting Artist/instructor at SUNY New Paltz. The deadline for this was May 15th but it is open until filled. They are looking for a visiting artist-in-residence and instructor for Fall 2018.
 
Position duties and expectations:
This position is intended to allow the resident the time and space to pursue a body of work in our expansive and energetic studio, while enhancing the Ceramics Program and the Art Department at SUNY New Paltz through teaching and mentorship.
Teach a diverse 3/3 course load fall and spring semesters (including undergraduate intro, wheel throwing, and hand building) as an adjunct
Maintain an active studio practice
Serve as informal faculty advisor to BFA and MFA students thesis work through participation in group and individual critiques and studio visits
Donate one significant piece to the SUNY New Paltz Ceramics Collection
 
SUNY New Paltz provides:
  • Private studio with 24/7 access to materials, equipment, and kilns
  • Stipend for clay and glaze materials and firings
  • Solo exhibition in Spring 2019
  • Shared office, separate from the studio
  • Access to Art Department Digital Fabrication Lab and Hudson Valley Advanced Manufacturing Center
  • NCECA pass
The position is for one academic year, beginning August 2018, with the potential for renewal for a second year.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
  • An MFA in Studio Art, ceramics or related discipline
  • Minimum of 1-year college-level teaching experience
  • Experience with a range of forming processes including wheel throwing, hand building, and plaster mold making
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Teaching experience beyond the graduate TA level
  • Experience in the use of digital fabrication tools in teaching and/or part of studio practices

The Art Department at SUNY New Paltz is uniquely enhanced by the location of the University in the heart of New York's historic Hudson Valley region. The initial home of the nineteenth-century Hudson River School of Painting, the region continues to be an active site of cultural opportunities with many artists and artistic organizations in residence. The proximity of New Paltz to New York City (80 miles) provides students with a wide range of artistic and educational opportunities. The Ceramics programs include approximately 15 BFA majors and 6 MFA candidates.
