Teach Lab / Tutor Specialist
Full-time hourly staff position, 12-month, renewable. Appointment date: by June 1, 2016. Salary will depend on qualifications.
Duties: Oversee the technical operations of metal fabrication shop, foundry, ceramic studios, and kiln maintenance. Coordinate shop monitor schedule with graduate students and faculty. Responsible for studio and staff compliance with EPA and OSHA regulations. Instruct and test students in the safe use of equipment and the proper handling/storage of materials. Organize and maintain inventory of tools and equipment in classroom and shop facilities in Sculpture, Ceramics and Foundations. Inventory management and stocking of bulk ceramic materials. Repair equipment and keep all tools in safe, working order. Coordinate supply orders and track expenditures for bulk materials. Work with 3D and Foundations faculty and other School of Art faculty on projects in the School of Art as needed.
Qualifications
Excellent organizational, communication, and office skills (Word & Excel). Ability to work effectively and professionally with students in an educational environment. Knowledge of use and maintenance of sculpture and ceramics equipment. Experience in metal fabrication. Demonstrated skills in welding (arc, mig, tig), metal casting, basic electrical and plumbing repairs. Experience in ceramics and a working knowledge of ceramic materials. Phone and computer skills essential. Current driver’s license and High School degree required. Must be able to lift 50lbs.
Desired Experience: Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art. Ability to solve a range of unique technical problems with creative solutions is ideal for this position. Foundry experience including bronze, aluminum, and iron casting. Ceramics experience. Experience building and maintaining gas and electric kilns. Basic wood and carpentry skills. Past experience facilitating workshops and leading technical demonstrations is desirable.
