    Director, Fabrication Center

    Location: NYS College of Ceramics

    Responsibilities and Duties: Alfred University seeks a full-time Director for its Fabrication Center. This position will be responsible for the development and oversight of laboratory facilities and equipment serving 3D digital modeling, prototyping and machining. The Director works closely and collaboratively with faculty and staff to equip, maintain, support and oversee digital fabrication facilities serving undergraduate and graduate programs and associated research efforts in the School of Art and Design and the School of Engineering.

    Responsibilities include:
    * Supervision of support staff in the College of Ceramics Machine Shop as well as providing oversight for that shop.
    * Provides consulting support and training to undergraduates, graduate students, faculty and other researchers in the use of the equipment.
    * Assists faculty and student instructors with preparation of undergraduate labs, providing teaching and demonstration support for outreach programs when needed.
    * Performs or oversees routine maintenance and calibration of all the equipment associated with 3D prototyping.

    Requirements: 
    Master of Fine Arts preferred or Bachelor's of Fine Arts with related experience in the field. Additional education and/or degrees in mechanical engineering preferred.

    Also required - expertise and work experience in 3D digital fabrication technologies, rapid prototyping, laser cutting, CNC machining, and 3D scanning in an academic environment serving students and faculty researchers; expertise in 3D modeling software; working knowledge of materials and applications for all ceramic, glass and sculptural art applications; ability to approach the techniques of digital fabrication with innovation in relationship to art, design, and engineering disciplines.

    Experience: Experience in application of 3D digital modeling and fabrication for engineers required.
